When did Shakespeare Make the double action fly reel?

Post by Len Sawisch »

I have a 2.5 " gun metal Shakespeare fly reel (unmarked) with a skeleton back but solid front to cover the gear train. Any idea when these were made? Any other fun info? Can't find it in the Shake catalogs.

Trying to get info so I can put a trade price on it. So jump in here and don't be thrown off by the Pflueger comfo pads on the handle knobs - this is known as product tampering . . .

Already did - it doesn't fit the skeleton criteria and isn't in the book.

This one has 1" pillars and 2.25" spool. It looks like a Kazoo 1875 from every angle except the front.

Len-go to the 1936 catalog. It's No. 1870 Dual Ratio Trout Reel. I can shoot you a pic if you need.

Page 38 of Shakespeare Catalog 36 A titled "Fine Fishing Tackle." It's one of the smaller 5" X 7" catalogs and difficult (for me) to photograph the page with a phone camera. If you can't find it in a catalog, let me know and I'll try something else.

Thanks Mark - interesting that the Dealer catalog for 1936, 36-D (the only 1936 catalog on the ORCA Library page for download), does not show that reel.
