jb crook reel
Re: jb crook reel
Hmm... Lawson's does not list the reel pictured and I cannot find any other sources.

Re: jb crook reel
A similar style JVH would run $50-$100 depending on details and I would guess that a similar reel marked Crook in great condition is less common. But Is it a later trade reel marked Crook (as late as 1920) or was it made by Crook (prior to 1875)? I would guess it is a later trade reel. Look up the timeline of Crook on ORCA's fishingreelresearch.org site.
[There are 2 Crook reels listed for higher values in the most recent Lawson-Elder price guide but I got the impression those were of a different earlier style eg ball handle multipliers made by Crook. At least one of those 2 listings is a repeat from the 2001 edition. A well worn 100 yd raised pillar style reel like yours but with all metal construction marked Crook sold online as a parts reel in January for under $20].

Thanks Paul, I saw that "parts reel" on ebay. That was a turd. This reel is much better quality, we'll have more data after I post this reel tonight. This reel has a nice bakelite face plate, no corrosion, and all the screws are intact. Thx
Re: jb crook reel
It's probably a Montague reel sold by Crook & Co., "Makers" notwithstanding. Thos. Conroy stamped a lot of reels similarly, when they were clearly made elsewhere. Here's an example of another Montague shown on ebay some time ago:

Re: jb crook reel
I agree with Steve, its a Montague.
Without the Crook mark, its a fairly inexpensive reel.
Not sure how much the mark will add.

Re: jb crook reel
I have one, same size, same style, about the same condition and it is a Montague. I paid $51.00.
