The following is the conversation that I had with Shakespeare on a reel that I purchased for my Eclectic Reel Collection. I need a date when the reel was first sold:

Re: Shakespeare Customer Serive.
Some months ago I bought a Berkley line counter to measure how much line I was putting on a reel. When I opened the package, there were no instructions. When I contacted Berkley CS, they replied that they had no instructions available. I asked if there was anyone who could at least tell me the function of the lever, knob, and extra part. No one had any information on this product. Tried three different contacts and got the same answer.
This is an item in current production, not an obsolete product.

I think this is as good as it gets.
Love those Open Face Spinning Reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco)

Ah... now I see where I was off track. Thank you for that, Tom.
The packaging on the one I bought only had the info from the left column on the back. Obviously someone there knew how to use it at some point in time.

I've got a similar style Rapala. At least it came with with decent instructions. It also came with a small booklet inside the package. There's sure not much guidance on the back of that Berkley packaging.
