Help from Shakespeare master or dealer catalog

Post by colby sorrells »

I need a little help from someone that has a Shakespeare master or dealer catalog. I know the "regular" size snap on plastic arbor is 1 3/8 inches wide and has model number 3750 ( I have a couple in correct box). My question - is there a narrow spool width and if so what is the model number? Or are the wide arbors simply cut to fit? I have several narrow spool Shakespeare reels with a narrow arbor. Any help appreciated.

Yes there is a narrow spool snap on arbor. #3749
I love to get old reels, work on them until they run as smooth as silk and the take them fishing using pre-1960 plugs, mostly surface fishing for Largemouths after dark.

Thanks Bill. I have found out there are actually several different models. Models:

Model 3748
Model 3749 Narrow Spool
Model 3750 11/32
Model 3751 3/8

and maybe more. Thanks for the help.

1960 catalog lists 3750A and 3749. I know there are some much earlier Shakespeare, plastic snap-on (pre-War) arbors that I have that I have never located any Shakespeare reel that they fit--- LOL. Is 3751 a typo in your post? Hard to imagine what reel has a spool that is 3/8 inch wide? I have always found Shakespeare Cork arbors to be vers scarce.

Bill,
It is not a typo. Found on eBay. You can see the box and that is what it shows. I took that size shown on the box to be the diameter of the shaft or spindel not the length.

The 3/8 refers to the diameter of the shaft of the spool that the arbor has to fit on. Shakespeare changed the size of this part over the years.
