Farlow Heyworth Reel

Post by bamboocollector »

If the reel foot has been replaced with another makers reel foot; how much does that affect the collectibility and value? I am just trying to get an idea of the impact.

Thanks,
Ed

Welcome to the ORCA Reel Talk section. Your question probably has a range of answers depending on the details but in general old reels with original parts are much more desirable than ones with replaced parts or worse, incorrect parts. If the reel body is rare, then there might be more forgiveness on what a collector might pay. Assuming the subject is a Farlow Heyworth fly reel, its not like they are impossible to find with all original parts so why would a dedicated Farlow collector want one that had an incorrect foot? On the other hand, that doesn't make it worthless. Some purists wouldn't consider buying it and others may want that model more than they care about the originality of the foot. In fact some collectors like to restore reels and enjoy the hunt for correct replacement parts. Maybe some pictures of your reel including shots of the foot would make the answer more obvious.
