I've seen the term used by multiple makers.... Montague, one of the vom Hofes (I think EVH, not JVH but could be wrong). Was this the first name given to "ball bearings"? Is there a difference?
Thanks.

Re: "Steel Pivot Bearings"
Bearing just refers to the thing that constrains the shaft while allowing it to turn. A plain bearing need only be a hole for the shaft to ride in. Doesn't have to be a ball bearing. Steel on steel wears best. Steel on bronze creates less friction.

Re: "Steel Pivot Bearings"
Thanks, Steve. I guess we could drop the word "pivot" and not lose anything. So what this means is the bushings in the "Steel Pivot Bearing" reels are made of steel, I guess. Thanks.oc1 wrote:Bearing just refers to the thing that constrains the shaft while allowing it to turn. A plain bearing need only be a hole for the shaft to ride in. Doesn't have to be a ball bearing.
