WHO Made This Reel?

Post by wrong99 »

Can anyone tell me who made this reel. I have an identical reel to this one called the "Mohawk", marked for Abbey & Imbrie of New York. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Clue: It's not Pflueger, as this eBay seller suggests.

I'm wondering who made this Buckeye Special? Whoever made this reel also made one that I have that is marked for A & I. Sorry for any confusion.

The maker of the reel in the eBay listing above also made my reel, which is marked on the tail plate for Abbey & Imbrie. The design is identical, except mine doesn't have the brake switch.

Yes, they did. Not this one, though. I'm thinking it would have to have been produced by at least a somewhat established manufacturer, in order to supply Abbey & Imbrie in New York.
Here's the comparison of the reel on eBay and my A & I reel. I also just noticed that several of the components on these two reels can also be found on the Heddon No.P-51 reel from the same era, another model who's maker has never been identified.

Kind of reminds me of the ranger casting reels.
I would like any unusual pflueger casting reels!

Thanks guys. I think you've nailed it. Below, a listing for a very similar model from Ranger's 1948 catalog. Nice to have a large collection of rod and reel catalogs. Perhaps I should read them from time to time. Thanks, again. This club is amazing!
