Penn Senator Dating Help

Post by mikegcny »

I have a Penn Senator 113-H 4/0. I am trying to figure out how old this is, just to know. I fish with this reel.

Side plates are dark maroon.

On one side is a jumping fish and a boat, a boat.
"Senator" (slightly angled)
"Penn 4/0"
"Special"
"Penn Fishing Tackle MFG. CO. Philadelphia, PA" (written in bottom in half-moon pattern)

Other side in a circle it says:
"Penn" (angled)
"Senator" (angled)
"113-H"
"Made in USA"
Pat'd"

All parts have their part number on them

Handle is amber with a maroon marble pattern

Does it have a clicker? The earliest ones didn't. Posts, spacer bars, half-frame or full-frame? This might help.

It does have a clicker and besides the base plate it only has posts between both sides of the reel.

Sorry, just examined my reference, the earliest 113h reels had a clicker, but it was not designed by Penn to be replaceable.

This is likely a early 1960s-1989 reel. Likely late 1960s/early 1970s given the color of the plates. A photo of the hsndle counterweight, and tailplate might narrow it down further, or you could look through some of the catalogs from this period.
