SALTWATER REEL ID ? Unusual .... Thanks

Post by Dan Z »

Does anyone know the maker / rough date of manufacture of this reel? has an unusual purposely off-center reel seat?

Thanks

99% Australian! I've about a dozen books on Australian reels let me see what I can find out but it'll take time as I can only look in my spare time which really doesn't exist. Tight Lines Nick

I did a really funky one-off for Jay White last year and I believe it also had an offset reel seat. I suspect that's to counterbalance the uneven weight distribution for the two faces?

Interesting reel Daniel, is it a multiplier? If so, I bet it has planetary gears. It has such a large head plate it looks like it's hiding something interesting inside. Give it a spin and let us know what the gear ratio is.
Thanks,

So ed, it's actually 1 to 1.... and John, i think you are right that its off-center to offset the weight on the right side- which is Very heavy. Hmmm... i picked this up from a long time collector who barely/ever sells/trades- and think there is something special about it, and has a cool look. anyone sees a picture or info somewhere on this, feedback and potential brand much appreciated. thanks

I played around with an off-center stand once. It made me want to rewrap the rod guides.
