When 40 stars line up "PERFECT" this happens

Post by Chad S »

A dream was fulfilled today! A 40yd Perfect found

This reel was found in a bucket of scrap metal to be taken to the recycle center. The reel had also been floating around on the internet for over year. I saw the old ad and thought "No way would this reel still be there." So I sent a message to the owner. I had forgotten about it and, a month later, I checked to see if she had replied and, to my amazement, it said "I still have it, are you interested?" I was shocked. I could not believe it. The obvious search was overlooked and I had a chance, so we exchanged some private messages and I made an offer that made her happy.

So, the reel is 500+ miles away from me in Arkansas and my trust issue and the horror stories of scams kick in. I do not want a "too good too be true" ad to turn into a scam. So, I think "How can I make it happen fool proof?" I remember my buddy Frank is 540 miles away and only 40 miles from the reel. So I call Frank and then Marie(the reels owner) and a plan is set for Frank to pick the reel up in person. Now the reel has a great story and is an extremely nice example of one of Shakespeare's finest reels and it just so happens to be a 40yd narrow spool, what I collect! This is one of my finest finds ever, one that I doubt will ever be topped, but I am okay with that. Chad

Here is a link to where the reel sat idle for a year, I still can't believe this happened to me.

Great story, Chad, and one we all hope will happen to us one day too. This is what makes the hunt worthwhile! Congratulations!

Haha, Jack was like a little kid, running around the 2006 convention in Lake George, NY showing everyone he came across! I was very happy for him back then too. It was a lot of fun watching him.

Just like Jack back then, I'm sure that reel will put a huge smile on your face too once it gets in your hands. Congrats!

I have not stop smiling in 3 days and my girlfriend wishes I would talk about something else lol.

I never knew Jack but I know he had good taste in reels, I sure wish my buddy Harvey was here to see this find but I am sure he is smiling down on me.

Thank You All for the kind words :D :D :D :D

Jack pestered me for several years to get that 40 yard perfect. At the time I had a collection of 40-50 yard Shakespeare reels and the Perfect was the top dog. After making Jack a happy man I sold the collection since the star was gone. I wonder where that Perfect is today. Jack didn't take it with him.
If we concentrated on the really important things in life there would be a shortage of fishing tackle

astounding for a 100-y-o jewel to end up in a scrap bucket
more astounding for it to be rescued and to find the exact seeker
