The Fall 2017 CAFTA show was held yesterday in Bond Head, Ontario. I was glad to meet and chat with a number of our Canadian ORCA members Gary Peck, Norm Bryant and Mike Walker. One of the CAFTA members had an old brass winch that we are trying to identify. It has a mark comprised of a Spade symbol surrounded by text that appears to say: " 3 . YEARS". The symbol seems to be upside down at the outer edge of the face plate. The other detail of interest is the "washer" holding the grasp on its pin. I have heard that is a characteristic of a French maker. Any clues to identify this reel would be appreciated by the owner.

... and my display of AL&W reels and tackle, shamelessly promoting my collection and ORCA. Refer to my article on AL&W marked reels published some time ago in TRN.

Paul,
I have been trying to ID that logo for some years now. Best guess is France
but not really sure.

So you have seen one or more other reels with this mark? Was the handle grasp/washer design similar?

Paul,
downloaded a picture of that logo on a small brass reel.
This was an ebay item and the picture looks similar to the reel you have.
It was located in Plymouth, England at the time it was offered. That was 2 or 3 years ago.

I wonder if it could be a Gaelic-root surname that's prounounced "ace"
3 Aces would sure fit.
