Penn battle spinning reel
I have a first issue Penn Battle spinning reel. Not a battle II. Question is , is the anti- reverse always on? I find no switch or knob to turn the anti- reverse off? Am I missing something? See everyone at Harper's ferry.
you can tune a piano,but you can't tuna fish.

Many newer reels are full-time anti-reverse, using a clutch bearing instead of a pawl. The anti-reverse pawl is a weak point on many designs - definitely on Shimano (Lew's) bait reels. Bait reels were the first to get rid of the pawl and replace it with a clutch bearing.
The pawl gets hammered by a charging and turning fish.
I don't have a spinfisher than is newer than 30 years, and those have anti-reverse using a pawl that can be disengaged.

The Battles larger than 3000 size dont have a switch to disengage the anti reverse. I think its great because historically that has been the point of failure for my surf reels.
