Any thoughts on the maker of this reel?
Re: Any thoughts on the maker of this reel?
Fantastic job! One question, what do you think about the handle screw? With everything else being brass, including the drive gear it seems, why is that looking plated or steel? Replacement or for some reason extra strength? I guess that's technically three questions...

Thanks, Guys...fun rescue!
James, reelmakers often used steel in positions where wear was highest, including clicker and drive shaft, but I was surprised by the handle screw here...usually brass on a reel like this. However, the threads, size and style are befitting this reel so I think it's always been steel.
As a side note, those steel parts are a big source of trouble, where present in reels I have reno'd. It doesn't play well with other metals, once water..especially salt water, enters the picture.
