UNKNOWN MEISSELBACH TROLLING REEL

Post by meisman2 »

The front view looks like a common Meisselbach trolling reel

The backside sports a brass housing which incorporates the reels drag

The set screw is positioned so it contacts the backplate - tightening the screw increases the drag while loosening it decreases the drag

The earliest Meisselbach patent date (FEB 23-86) is stamped on the faceplate

Tailplate shows usage from drag - also scratches on faceplate - spool is 4 5/8 inches diameter - possibility that reel was "manufactured" by a local fisherman, but was very well made - e-mail for more pics - any offers?

Probably a home-made Frankenreel, from a centrepin devotee.

Hey Steve thanks for your input. So who is this Franken? Don't believe I've heard the name before. Is he an amateur reelmaker? He apparently did pretty good work if he was responsible for my reel. Thanks again ...... Jack

Maybe it's this guy. He seems to be from up your way. And here's a pic of him apparently testing a grasp:
