HEY ORCA MEMBERS, ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A GOOD ANTIQUE REEL SHOW?

The Florida Antique Tackle Collectors (FATC) invites and hosts all ORCA members at our Daytona International Tackle Extravaganza every year. This year the show is being held March 2, 3 and 4 right on the beach in Daytona Beach Florida. The show is the second largest show in the country and usually has between 350 and 400 tables. The FATC reserves a whole section of the main ballroom for ORCA members and all reel collectors who wish to purchase tables. There are more reel tables at this show than there at the average size ORCA convention.

ORCA members from around the country have been coming to this show for years, heck, I know of 4 ORCA members coming from California this year and one that is coming all the way from Alaska! The FATC gives out a special award for the best reel display and has always encouraged collectors from other clubs to attend this, and all of our shows. There is a full page ad in the latest ORCA newsletter inviting ORCA members to join the party.

For more information visit the FATC web site, there is still time to make your plans for this years show!!

Hey Ed,
I'm looking forward to Daytona again this year. I've recently rejoined ORCA again after being away from the club for many years. As usual I will be bringing a lot of reels to the show to sell. I've included a few photos of some of them and hope to see many ORCA members there. See you there, Tony Floridia

Pictures of reel tables at Daytona, courtesy of ORCA board member Henry Caldwell who reports that it is a "...strong reel show!!!" If you can get there right now, go for it!

Thanks for the photos. For those of us unable to make it to Daytona, I’d love to see a few more and a little write up of any neat reels displayed or for sale. Thanks.

Daytona was a great show for reels. Some truly rare reels were displayed and/or offered for sale.

Here are a few I came home with ...

At first I was hesitant to buy the Keifer as it did not have the patented foot, but was told by two veteran ORCAns that they had seen enough examples like mine (or with a one-piece foot, like Tom Greene's) to believe it to be correct.

For those who did not come, consider coming next year. Daytona is a killer reel show.

Dean.

I like that one that says Indianapolis! I never see anything like that, but probably couldn't afford it even if I did. Nice finds.

I think we need to see more if those 'reasons' in near real time, for those of us without the means to attend ;)

My son attended the Daytona show and I regret not sending him a wad of cash to hook me up after he started sending pics of the reels. Next year.

Dean, that William Mills reel is a stunner and I can't stop looking at it. Very nice and thanks for posting the pics.
