Need Help Matching Pflueger Summit Box To Correct Model Reel ...

Post by reelsmith. »

What does the reel that goes in this box (dated 1932) look like.

If you can post a picture ...um ...it would be worth a thousand words.

There seem to be a lot of variations with small differences and I've never seen one marked "J".

Thanks for the help.

Dean, I'm not the best for this subject but there have been a few discussions about the 1993J in the forum in the past. There are also some photos on Robert Ellis's site here https://robertsreelsandwildlifephotos.w ... reels.html. I don't actually know what's different about that model though.

There's a photo in Bob's "Summit" book showing the 1931 model, with the marbled knobs, polished Diamolite body, extra pawl housing, engraved head plate rim and seven patent numbers. He states no 1932 catalog exists, but the reel still had seven patent numbers in 1933 (so, basically identical to the 1931 example). I would assume that would be the reel you're after?

That is about as late a maroon box that you are going to find. I have a green box dated March 33. Sorry about the crappy pictures it is early in the morning and I am not firing on all cylinders yet-LOL

I love to get old reels, work on them until they run as smooth as silk and the take them fishing using pre-1960 plugs, mostly surface fishing for Largemouths after dark.

My thanks to all ...I knew you folks would know.

Thanks Bill for the pictures ...they make finding the right reel that much easier.

The month of the date is not visible on the box, so 1932 is all that shows.

The paperwork shows the earlier reel with the amber knobs. I assume they used the same papers for years without updating them. But thought better to ask and be sure.

Thanks again !

There is something about maroon boxes that I find aesthetically pleasing. I like them.

Mark is correct.
As to maroon box, they did not disappear until 1936, but green boxes appeared about late 1932. THe Pfluegers wasted nothing. At any rate, a nice maroon box for the Summit is sweet!
