old bamboo fly rod

Post by lsekel »

I'm trying to identify the maker of an old bamboo fly rod.
The rod was stored along with several others, than forgotten
for the last 40 years until recently discovered in my
storage shed. The only marking on the rod looks like a
washer that you would find in the female end of a garden hose.
The makers mark is colored black, 3/4" outside diameter by 3/8"
inside diameter, just like a washer. In the inner portion of
the "washer" is the depiction of a fly. There are no other
marks on the rod. Does anyone know who may have made
this rod.

You will more than likely need to post a few photos of it with closeups of the label to get an accurate suggestion.
Love those Open Face Spinning Reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco)

That doesn’t sound like any of the majors to me. It’s a good possibility that it is a Japanese rod, brought back by some soldier who did time overseas. If you want to email me pics, I can have a look and/or post for you. How many sections? Is it a fly rod or is reel seat above a lower butt? Length?
