Hello Folks,
I just picked up a Pflueger Akron reel in a maroon box and was wondering how long they produced that box. This one is marked 1931 on the bottom. I'm not sure if the reel in it is correct. It has slotted screws on the foot, but has a polished finish and the box says satin nickel.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Bob,
Thanks for the info, if I give you the patent numbers off of the reel I have can you date it?
Thanks again.

Bob,
Sorry for not checking the reel before my last PM. The reel says Patented Apr 3, 1923 and other patents pending.
Thanks again, Robert

Re: Maroon Pflueger Reel Boxes
That reel is the first version of the "Modern Era" Akrons. A bit scarce, but not rare. But it marked the beginning of a time when the average cash-strapped angler could afford a dependable level wind casting reel.
Obviously not the correct box for your reel, but any maroon Pflueger box is valuable. According to condition, the box and reel of equal value. I am generally out of touch as to dollar amounts these days.
