Arthur Kovalovsky 18/0 reel with rod

Post by vesuviantitan »

I have recently found myself the lucky owner of a Arthur Kovalovsky 18/0 reel and rod.
I'm trying to find information about it as I'm new here I don't know how to post pictures but I've added a link to my Google photos if anyone wants to look at the pictures I have of it.

If you have any information on this reel and rod I'll be happy to hear it.
Thank you for your time reading this. I'm really new to this as this is the first I've seen like this.

Figured out the picture upload tool out but all pictures are about 5mb+ and to not destroy quality of the pictures I won't resize but will leave them in my Google drive/photos with the link. As every mega pixel counts for quality and wear for its age.

You are, indeed, a lucky fellow! Both rod and reel have high value and appear to be in really excellent condition! Do you have any provenance to go with it? Any idea of it's personal history? Most of these high end Kovalovsky reels were owned by high end folks...no one else could afford to be in that game. Looks like it's #30...may be such a thing that Ed Pritchard has the tag for that reel and can see who originally bought it!

Great reel. Please note the correct spelling of Kovalovsky if searching for patents or auction results. There is an out of print book “Handmade in Hollywood” about these reels and their maker that comes up for sale on eBay or at Lang’s Auctions every once in a while.

Spelling fixed sorry for incorrectly spelling the last name. Wasn't intentional that you can be assured.

Great Rod and Reel! Really nice combination. I would love to add this piece to my collection. If you have any desire to sell, please let me know. I would be willing to offer you a handsome price. Thanks, Jay White (drtk11@aol.com)

I don't know anything about it except that it's beautiful. The photos and google links are great too because you can see every thread on the hickory. Wish that much detail was always available here.

To an extent yes LoL but I'm more right now trying to get history on the engineering and craftsmanship it took to create it. I'm amazed of this kind of craftsmanship not being made in a factory with stamping sheet metal. The care in creation of each part of the components to the final fit and finish. If and or when I choose to sell it whom ever the new owner could be I would love to recieve pictures of its internals, I've gone as far to hunt down it's patent and get it's design and diagrams. But as I don't know what the proper steps are with this style of reel and there is no manuals for disassembly and reassembly I'll not do that!. Love the GIFs though they're very good. I am looking at offers they're all very tempting to be honest can't lie about that.

I cleaned off the old mono line on the reel and added 4 more pictures of what I found.
