Patina Anyone?

Post by Brian F. »

If anybody would like to add a nice patina to one of their reels, feel free to mail it my way. Lots of sulfer dioxide floating around here right now. :D

Brian....How are you doing? I don’t think we have any concept of the issues you are or could be experiencing.

Thanks for asking, Wayne. I'm safe and life is pretty normal for the most part. House is far from Volcano and the ash/vog is an inconvenience for people living within a few miles. The explosions are pretty spectacular and the last couple were notable, sending rocks flying but only into the immediate surrounding area of the crater. I live closer to the vents (about 7 miles away) where lava is spattering out but not producing huge lava flows like other events. Unfortunately, it popped up in the middle of a subdivision but there's history so why they built there......?? We can hear the activity even from where we are and it sounds like thunder and sometimes a low roar like a jet engine.

Brian....I just sacrificed a potential "reel toss" winner to Pele. I tossed it right into the fire-pit out back, in your honor. She'll watch over you for sure. :beer

Brian I saw a very pretty lady on the TV news late last night with the same last name as you have talking about all the ash getting on every thing & she was so pretty I could not take my eyes off her to see what she was doing but I believe she was cleaning that patina you are talking about off her vehicle. She must be related to you. Any chance of seeing you in Harpers Ferry? Bill Hoerter

Hi Bill! No, sorry, not related  Not going to make it out there this year. Disappointed that I'll miss out on hanging out with my favorite group of guys and gals. And all those reels!

What the heck is going on? Last month it was a (national) record flooding on Kauai. Fifty inches of rain in twenty-four hours. Over 500 homes damaged or destroyed. Now Kilauea is going off again. Almost thirty homes destroyed so far with more to come. We know that volcanism affects climate change, but does climate change affect volcanism? Stay safe over there.

 And......I saw NOAA reporting the first organized storm in the SE Pacific. It's not even hurricane season yet.

SO2 is a problem for people with respiratory issues in the adjacent areas but so far only an odor where I am. Lava coming out of the fissures is a lot more fluid now so it's expected to cover more ground and eventually head to the ocean.
