Here’s hoping a few ORCAns post a view photos of the NFLCC Nationals.

Yesterday was my first experience with “room trading”. At first I was uncomfortable walking in to other peoples rooms, but after the first tow or three it was great!!

But the number of reel pics are nil!!! .. There is a nice shot of Dean standing guard while Terry Ow sneaks up behind and rifles his good reel stash :D

Anyone take any good reel pics they can share??

Jim Ruth had a truly awe-inspiring collection of mostly Kentucky reels. Photos? Who knows?

Here's a modest display of Lewis reels.

It was a fun show with several ORCAns in attendance, however, the highlight for me was seeing my old friend Steve Vernon (Mr. Pie) who came with his lovely wife and a crate filled with his new book. Although the show was a bit light on reels several collectors I talked with said that they found a few gems. I was fortunate enough to come home with a few nice pieces myself. Thirty five years and I have never been to a bad tackle show!

Glad you made it home safely, Anon...and your "few nice pieces," too. Parting was such sweet sorrow. As I mumbled on my FB page, tho I didn't buy anything, I managed to catch up on a cumulative half a millennium with old friends...and talked with a passle of reel folks I'd never had the pleasure of meeting face-to-face before.

Back from the show, had a great time catching up with old friends, many I haven't seen in many years. Sandy and I were fortunate to have had dinner with the esteemed Mr. Vernon and his lovely wife, Bill Holbein, Dave Erickson and Doug Whittington. As for reel displays, look no further than the awesome display by Bill Holbein:

I had a few cases set up with a few reels as well:

Both Jim and Bill's displays were nothing short of spectacular.

I'd imagine Jim Ruth's display was as seen at the ORCA Nationals.

Speaking of Jim ...he let me go home with this reel of his ...

Its rare for me to see a multiplier I have to have ...but I really like this reel.

Solid nickel-silver, blue jewels, lots of fancy knurling ...and note the bolstered crank collar.

An absolute masterpiece.

Originally from the collection of Al Munger.

Thanks again Jim.

I had this case of REDIFOR on display in Lancaster. Maybe next year I will mix in a few River Runts or Bagleys in Orange with Purple Stripes to attract attention. Thanks to all who displayed some reels, I enjoyed seeing them. John

Wow...those are some great reel photos. I am really starting to appreciate the aesthetics of the period rod/reel combos when displayed as above.

Fabulous reels and photos, Jim. Thanks for posting those. That's a sweet JVH you bought, Dean. Neat stuff you posted on your website. One question: how do you identify that little fly reel on your website as a Slote? I'm just getting up to speed on that maker, having seen Bill Hoerter's excellent Slote displays.

Easy ...I showed it to Bill Hoerter !

Its a combination of the pillars, crank, knurling and the foot ...especially the shoulders on the pillars.
