Who made this reel??
It looks so familiar to me but i can’t find it. Well-made of nickel silver and the gear has witness marks as ascribed to Pflueger but i haven’t found it in cats or books. Is it a Pfl trade reel?? Don’t know what to think about the clear grasp.. may be a replacement?

Thanks, Robin....have you ever seen a transparent grasp like that?? I fits well and is of a typical shape, but new to me.

there are a couple peen marks in the end of the grasp post...this was probably originally wood and got replaced...maybe a small drawer pull?....works great!

Re: Who made this reel??
Sometimes the little inset plate is stamped "PFLUEGER" and I have a few marked and some not. Seem to recall seeing them in the typical 150 to 400 yd sizes. I agree the knob is a replacement.

Got a spare reel stamped "Pflueger" or a Montague Imperial?

Re: Who made this reel??
John, I have to go with Pflueger and a replaced handle/knob. The small plate on the front has early Pflueger written all over it, not to mention the obvious quality of the reel.

I have seen a couple of those with offset plate. Rare. Definitely Pflueger. I'll check a couple of sources I may still have. Beautiful reel! Your cleaning job Deke?

Re: Who made this reel??
John,
It's a model 2016 Pflueger surf casting reel. It shows up in the 1907-08 catalog but was no longer offered by 1916. It came with a wood handle. Nice reel!

Re: Who made this reel??
Interesting to note that in the 1907-08 catalog it is shown with the words "Pflueger" over "Surf Casting" above the plate and in the hard rubber. Not sure it was ever sold so marked. Their title was "Improved Round Multiplying Reel".
