This is an endnote (2, below) from an article I wrote years ago which raised the question “What ever happened to Dr. Henshall’s collection that he listed for sale in June, 1919?” He was living in Cincinnati at the time. Does any one have a copy of the June, 1919 issue of American Angler with a copy of his ad?

I wish I knew where a copy of the reel catalog is. This subject has been a mystery for some time and talked about in the past.

Mary Kelly wrote about the Henshall collection in her book Origins of American Angling. She had a copy of Henshall's rod catalog and it was reproduced in this book.
My essay on the last year(s) of Henshall's life is now an epilogue to the 10th Anniversary Edition of The Autobiography of Dr. James Alexander Henshall. It explains how his autobiography never made it into print.

His collection was dispersed widely. One of the reels, a hand-made J.S. Sage fly reel, ended up in the hands of his friend Larry St. John of the Chicago Tribune, who also got several other of Henshall's reels.
