Heddon Spincast Reel Question

Post by David Lehmann »

When did Heddon first sell a spincast reel? If you have Heddon catalogs from the mid to late 1950s, could you check them and see if a spincast reel was offered please? I'm trying to put together a history of early spincast reels in the U.S. and have a big gap in information from Heddon. Thanks!

Heddon offered their first spin-casting reels in 1962.

Were they Daisy by that time? I think all spinning and spicast reels were made in Japan?

Yes, they were Heddon/Daisy in 1962. The "Scandia" series of spin-casting reels, the first spin-casters offered by Heddon, were made in Sweden. The "Spin-Pal" reels arrived on the scene in 1966 and were described as being "crafted in the U.S.A.". Subsequent new spin-casting models were Japanese-made.

There is quite a lot of information about the relationship between Heddon and Victory Produkter AB throughout the Victory chapter in Daniel Skupien's book, "Vintage Fishing Reels of Sweden" It seems the relationship began in 1959. The two models made for Heddon are at the end of the chapter.
