My soft spot for misfits
My soft spot for misfits
I was on the road for work yesterday and stopped at an "antique"shop on my way back to Detroit. In an obscure bin that I missed on my first walk through, I spotted an old bait casting reel. I talmost didn'ecause it was missing its handle. When I did pick it up, I was immediately intrigued since it was stamped "Made in Canada" on the foot brace. On the head plate, it is marked Hudson Reel-Master casting reel. It appears to have been cut from a single block of aluminum(?) except for the steel guard over the level wind worm gear. Can anyone out there give any dditional info on thisreel?
Thanks for reading,
Stan

Re: My soft spot for misfits
Alan, thanks for the input. I dug mine out of the $2.00 clearance bin since it was missing a handle. Surprisingly it does have the handle nut. When I get a couple of pix I will post them back here. There is a fair amount of tarnish on the reel but it seems to be functional (I found that Abu handles fit the post) and some rust on the level wind worm guard. There are some faint swirls on the tail plate. I'm not sure the two screws holding the head plate are original, they showed some signs of rust.
Thanks again, Stan "Buster" Cowton

Read all about it in the REEL NEWS, Issue 2, 2017 The Reel Connection between Lawson Machine Works and Burlington Metal Products.

Eventually I'll figure how to post three pix on one post.
