akerite 2068 reel

Post by fishlessman »

i have an akerite 2068 reel and am looking for information on one of its features. on the crank head there is a pull knob that allows the end plate with the crank to turn about one half inch. what is suppose to happen when this is done. i dont know if something is broken or just stuck. before i take the reel apart it would be nice to know what the feature is for. thanks mike

The reel is made with a quick take-apart function similar to the Penn Jigmaster, etc. Once the plate is turned, it should be able to pull off from the frame to change the spool, access the bridge, etc. If it does not come apart, you may need to see if the plate can turn more. The knob is actually a screw that secures the headplate (with the crank) from turning.
