Billinghurst Cage Reel

Post by MAGman »

I have an opportunity to purchase a Billinghurst Cage type reel. Patented 1859. Looks like it has a serial # A1878. Made in Rochester, NY. Nickle Plated. The woman wants quite a bit of money for it.

I am interested in purchasing it with the intent of re-selling it.

Could someone give me an idea as to what a reel of this type is bringing these days?

Hi MAGman,
That number you think is a serial # is in fact the 2nd patent date of 1873. It might look like &1878, but is 1873.
Value depends on a number of things, condition #1, then size, handle configuration, etc. If you are looking to re-sell, I may be interested in buying! Always looking for more sidemounts!
Shoot me an e-mail if you like.

Whoops...forgot to answer your question
They can range from $500 to $2500, or more for a really tough one. A boxed example (only one so far) reached $12,500!
