Get Well Wishes for Carol Kring

Post by bettybarr »

Our librarian, Jon Kring, needs our best wishes for his wife, Carol. She is having surgery tomorrow to remove a growth on a heart valve. ORCA sends both of them our hopes for the best possible outcome!

Surgery is actually Wed. morning. Although her health issues this summer have been no secret, I had only shared this with a couple of ORCA folks up to now. Doesen't really fit in with collecting reels. A little background. My wife is a severe diabetic. She has needed knee replacement for a couple of years. She developed a bad ear infection in May and has been dealing with that all summer. Had a surgial proceedure on the ear. She was going to have her worst knee replaced on August 4th Due to the fact that they make you have every test in the world prior to that surgery, they did a check on her heart and found she has a mass in her heart. So much for the knee surgery. After seeing a cardiologist , he told us if the mass was left and broke loose , it could result in stroke. After hearing that, one day in August she told me she was having some facial paralysis so we went to the emergency room. She was there a short time and they diagnosed her with Bells Palsey. She still has that and has had a lot of pain and discomfort from that. It has effected sleeping and eating. Basically it has not been a good year. Many, many Dr. appointments, trips to Dr, ENT Dr., Eye Dr. and a few visits to the emergency room. Now that's more information than you ever wanted to hear. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. Jon

Remember that the ladies are a lot tougher than we guys are, Jonathan. I'm counting on better times soon for the both of you. Hang in there and try to also take care of yourself too. You have friends who sincerely care.

Well, not what I wanted to report. At 4:55 a.m. after making all of the advance preparations, and ready to head out the door at 5am. to get to the hospital at 5:30. Surgeon's nurse called. Dr. sick, surgery cancelled. (2nd time now) At least we had a weeks notice on the prior one. Now re-scheduled for next Tue. 11/24. Thanks for all of the good wishes. Jon

Heart surgery done yesterday 11/24., went fairly well. Dr removed 3 fiborous masses from the Mytral valve and relplaced Aortic valve with a tissue valve. Long way to go but over this hurdle anyway. Thanks for the good wishes, Jon

Wife was moved to Rehabilitation Hospital Of Indiana on Monday 11/30. She is making progress but has a ways to go. Seems to be having more problems from the effects of the lingering Bell's Palsy than from the surgery. Every day that life goes on is a blessing. When she begins to question things and says why did all of this happen to me or what did I ever do to deserve this? My response is, you can't ask those questions, the only thing you need to realize is, no matter how bad off you are there are many people in this world who are much worse off. I try to count our blessings, which are many, but sometimes that becomes clouded by current circumstances. Thanks again for all of the thoughts and prayers. You all are a great bunch of folks. Came home from re-hab hospital Wed. 12/16. Can get up, do a little walking with a walker. Will need wheel chair for Dr. and therapy appointments. Headed in the right direction and home for Christmas. Our grand kids call her Bee. I had been referring to myself as nurse Ratchet. My older brother sent me an e-mail and said , I didn't totally understand. He said I guess Carol is Bee and you are "Nurse Rat ---"! Marion or Rat ---, whatever works? Jon

Wife has been home since 12/16. Currently, when we go out it is by a transport chair. Is kind of tricky when it's cold and snowy navigating the wheel chair ramp. Been able to get in and out so far. Have a couple of hours twice a week of out patient therapy at the rehabilitation hospital which is only about 20 minutes from home. Inside she can get around with a walker. Still has a high pitched voice for some reason. Don't know if it's a result of the tubes down her throat during surgery or what? I have to constantly ask her what she said. She tells me I am hard of hearing and don't listen. Both could partially be true. Still dealing with some Bells Palsy issues. When I see people come in and out of the rehabilitation hospital when we are there. I tell her we need to count our blessings. Many, many people are much worse off and dealing with much more. God is good and will see you through your trials.
Just keep on keeping on, "One Day At A Time". Jon (Alias Marion The Librarian)

"She tells me I'm hard of hearing and not listening". Have I heard that before! It's probably true, Jonathan.

I get the feeling Carol is well down the road to full recovery. Been down that road myself, but not nearly so serious, just slow. Remember to take care of yourself while taking care of her. You will be doing both of you a favor.

Look forward to seeing you again at Buckberry.
