Someone had told me to try sunglasses while driving in the rain. I dismissed it at the time. On a recent road trip north we ran into a heavy rainstorm, a real frog strangler and I had my sunglasses on at the time. It improved my vision by about 50%. It may have something to do with light deflection but it worked. My sunglasses are polarized which may have helped. It may not make sense but it works.

I have some amber colored polarized glasses that really work well too. One of my very few TV infomercial purchases.

Polarized glasses do cut the glare caused by rain in daylight but don't try it after dark.
