Interesting idea...

This significantly/exponentially increases the number of targetable fish species available to anglers. Not sure how light the tackle would need to be to give the query a 'sporting' chance though?

Perfect! Don and I just got the tiny Nick Hadden at the Lang's auction! I am set! Except that 8X? Are you kidding? I can't see 7X. Great excuse to hire a cute young guide to tie on the bait or flies. Or break out my 4X dental loupes.
Steve, thanks for the new hobby.

Steve:
I have some spare #24 hooks you might be able to use

Paul

BTW - I can actually tie a simple fly on one of these without the aid of eyeglasses or a magnifying glass but even 7X is hard to thread through the eye.

Seriously? I really think you made a 2 1/2" fake quarter just to raise our eyebrows. If that's the real deal it's pretty darn cool! 8)

Good eye, Tom. The "quarter" was originally a table top.

I don't know what to think. Seriously why do you need a reel? Wouldn't you just fish Tenkara style?

As I understand it, the line used in Tenkara-style fishing is about the same length as the rod. That "trolling" rod is about a foot long, so the hook would be dangling around knee-level, rather than in the water. Hence the reel. Besides, any ORCAn fishing without a reel should have his membership revoked. :x

Great posts! Evidently I have been in the vanguard of "micro-fishing" for years- ALL the fish I catch are about that size! Of course they're Smallmouth, Walleye, Trout, and Steelhead (do they count?)

I did want to show off the micro-fishing outfit I picked up this summer! Fully functional rod/reel- crank and drag works, and telescoping rod comes out to 30". No maker. Can't tell if this is legit or just a very well-made novelty. I need a little fly-rod Bass-Oreno for it then I'll try it out on Lake Joseph (my "micro-lake!") next Spring!

Thanks for the look. Best---- Joe Walkowski (WNY)

Finally I get to contribute some useful information. Micro fishing is not new. It was used to feed babies in the 1800's. An example of the rods and reels used is shown below. Note the well preserved trout attached!
