Instructions on Posting Photos

Post by Brian F. »

Please also check our new feature: ORCA Image Uploading and Posting.

Courtesy of AutoFly (Rick):
Can I post Images?

Images can indeed be shown in your posts. However, there is no facility at present for uploading images directly to this board. Therefore you must link to an image stored on a publicly accessible web server, e.g. http://www.some-unknown-place.net/my-picture.gif. You cannot link to pictures stored on your own PC (unless it is a publicly accessible server) nor to images stored behind authentication mechanisms such as Hotmail or Yahoo mailboxes, password-protected sites, etc. To display the image use either the BBCode Image tag or appropriate HTML (if allowed).

So you have to upload your pictures to a hosting site (there's FREE one's out there. You can usually right-click on your pic once it's posted and choose "properties" at the bottom of the box that opens. That screen will have the URL on it. It'll look something like this...http://ricksreels.weebly.com/uploads/4/ ... 919180.jpg Copy that string and paste it into your message on the forum.
Once you have your image URL pasted into your message, highlight it and click on the "IMG" button and continue typing. Click on the "Preview" button to see if it appears, then click on "Submit".

Here are some straightforward instructions on how to post photos using Photobucket (courtesy of Steve):
Here is a step-by-step procedure for posting a photo on Reel Talk. It assumes that you have already uploaded the photo to Photobucket. A similar procedure probably is usable for other online photo sites that include links to your uploaded pics. It is also assumed that you're using IE or Firefox with a Windows OS.

It's probably more convenient to have your "Post a new topic" or "Post a reply" page open on one browser tab, while your Photobucket album is open on another.

1. Open the Photobucket album where the photo is stored, and thumbnails of all the photos should be visible. Under each, 3 choices for links are available (#1, below).
2. Left-click on IMG under the photo you want to post. The URL box will turn blue (#2, below).
3. Right-click on the URL box, and a menu should appear.
4. Select COPY.

Image

5. Go back to your "Post a new topic" or "Post a reply" box and right-click within it.
6. Select PASTE from the menu that appears.
7. The URL of the photo should now be in the Reply box. To make sure the link works, click the PREVIEW button below the box, then scroll up to see if the photo appears in the Preview window.
8. If you want to add text, return to the "Post" box and type it above or below the photo link.
9. Check again with the PREVIEW button to be sure the text and photo will appear correctly.
10. Once you're satisfied that your reply will be posted properly, click on the SUBMIT button.

Video Re: Instructions on Posting Photos

I thought it might help some folks to see a video tutorial of how to post pictures to this site, so here it is, using this Post as an example.

PS -- I used a Mac to create this video because it was the easiest way to do it. The process for posting pics is essentially the same using a PC with Windows, which is what I normally use when posting to this site.

Paul, your video is indicated as "private", so no one can see it.

Brian:
I see that you arranged to add code support for embedding video in posts. Thanks! I think it it looks much better to see the opening frame of the video within the post. Also being able to watch the video within the post keeps users within this website.

I hope other O.R.C.A Online and O.R.C.A. members take advantage of this new feature and start posting Reel Videos.

Thanks again,
Paul M

My ISP provides generous storage on an FTP server. Can I use that to post pics here?

I would assume so...just have to put it in IMG format here. Just copy that form of address and paste into the message window where you want it to appear. You can test by making a post here, then look at it with the preview button...if it worked, great...if you then leave the page without "submitting" it, the post will not clutter the board...give it a try!

Yes, as long as the photo is in a .jpg format and uploaded anywhere on the internet, you can us it here.

What JE means is that after you paste in the url address into your message, just highlight it with your cursor and click on the "Img" button above. That will put the correct code around the address so that it automatically appears.

yes, as brian says...if you site does not have a form that is already in IMG format, you can get the pic address that looks like this:

http://i672.photobucket.com/albums/vv85 ... 638d68.jpg

then, highlight it and click on that img button in the header above the message window and hit the preview button...your pic should then show up like this:

Ok, thanks. It's been a long time since I've had to use the storage so it may take me a while to remember how to get to it. :D

Generally you can right click on most any image anywhere on the net then choose
copy image location then highlight the img icon in your post and then between
[img] [img] right click again and click paste, between the
[img] post img. location here[img ] then post .

I actually have a mohawk but it's blending into the color of the tarp behind me. And this illustrates why many people do not want their photo on the net.
