Re: 2014 ORCA National Information
Don't forget to register and make your reservations for the 2014 ORCA National Convention on September 3 – 6! You need to mention ORCA and reserve your room before August 18 to get the special ORCA room rate of $139. We are developing a schedule of activities which will be posted shortly but you can get an idea here: 2014 Convention
The registration form is included in the July issue of the Reel News (or you can print out at the link below). Mail in your form along with payment to ORCA Secretary, Roger Schulz, at the address on the form. Print out a bunch and hand them out to your reel collector friends. The more attendees the merrier!

Re: If you're still waffling and procrastinating...
…or if you thought you weren’t going to come….you haven’t thought this through!! Great setting, right on the water with tons of historical antique tackle and a host of others that share your affliction to banter with! Talks about the history of saltwater tackle and fishing by Mike Farrior and the history of the Langley reels by Colby Sorrells and Alan Barraco, freshwater and saltwater fishing contests, casting contests, Stu Lawson Ugly Reel Toss, and more food than you should eat. Make those reservations and registration ASAP! See you there!
Re: 2014 ORCA National Information
ORCA holds a club benefit silent/live auction at each National Convention. If you have reels or other tackle that you'd like to donate for the auction, please contact and send to Secretary Roger Schulz or President/National Host John Elder. Proceeds go to help fund ORCA as a non-profit so your donations are tax deductible.
And a weekly bump for the Convention!

I have a spare reel stamped "Tuna" that I can bring to the National if you still are looking for one.

Re: 2014 ORCA National Information
Randy, that would be fantastic! Sounds like one of the 400-450 yd reels made early by either pflueger or Montague....odds are the latter, but either is a keeper for us!
Room also just opened up for our tables at the show, so no problem accomodating you and others in need of table space. Just let Roger know!
Also, this is the last day for our special room rate! Best make it happen today if you are coming!

Re: 2014 ORCA National Information
We have a preliminary schedule set now, Colby...will be posting soon. You are talking on thurs the 4th....looking forward to it!
Re: 2014 ORCA National Information
Aloha from San Diego!
ORCA, John Elder and myself are looking forward to seeing everyone that signed up at the beautiful Kona Kai Resort on Shelter Island/San Diego Bay next week. It will be good to see old friends and meet new people that are interested in collecting reels. We've got a lot in store and, while some of you have been to a National or two before, there will definitely be a West Coast twist to things for this convention.
The schedule for the 2014 ORCA National has been emailed to participants (we are not posting the detailed schedule up Reel Talk out of consideration for general security). In the meantime, we wanted to alert convention-goers of fishing opportunities that are coming up at the event so that you might have time to prepare better if interested.
First is the Antique Fishing Tackle Contest.
We'll be fishing off of Shelter Island Pier, just down the road from the hotel. Contest guidelines were emailed out to participants but, in general, this tournament will be run as usual. The one thing we did was to push the cut off date on tackle forward to 1960 to give more flexibility for saltwater fishing.
Some additional info and photos can be found at:
http://www.pierfishing.com/pier_of_the_ ... sland.html
Second is an Offshore Fishing Trip.
A free charter boat trip on Friday for four lucky ORCA National attendees is being offered as a charity fundraiser for the club. ORCA member, Mike Farrior of San Diego, has arranged through the generosity of his friend, Capt. Craig Smith, to take four members on a trip out into the Pacific Ocean for tuna or into San Diego Bay for some bass or bottomfishing. You need to be present and registered at the convention for this opportunity.
If you have not signed up to attend yet, it's not too late to join the fun! Send in your registration form and payment to Roger Schulz and make your room reservations. There's still plenty of room left but, unfortunately, you will not get the special ORCA room rate as the deadline has passed.
See you all there!
