ORCA Member Profile: Robert Paul Ellis was an avid reel collector, author, researcher and one of the most well-liked men that ORCA has ever had the pleasure to call a member. His tireless enthusiasm for the hobby, willingness to help members or non-members alike at any time and the endless devotion to our organization came to epitomize everything that is positive about The Old Reel Collector's Association.
His untimely death in 2013 left a void that, in certain ways, has been nearly impossible to fill. He created what is now the most complete and comprehensive website devoted to the reels from the Bronson Reel Co. Nothing remotely like it exists. Those interested in the company and the reels they produced for nearly 50 years can access the site at http://www.bronsonreelphotos.com/. Robert also left behind a similar site dedicated to reels from the Ocean City Mfg. Co. One can visit this awesome site at http://www.oceancityreelphotos.com/index.html. Both sites are now owned and maintained by ORCA and are being constantly updated as new information on these reels becomes available.
The accompanying photos are of Robert and a selection of 1930's "engraved" Bronson casting reels that were among his favorites to collect.
