Is this link in the Ocean City site? If not, it sure should be.

Al,
Great site for schematics. Can't find a schematic for the 998 reel.
Thanks for trying.

There are two versions of the 998 Interstate shown on the Ocean City Website. Look under Ocean City fresh water casting reels. http://www.oceancityreelphotos.com/ocea ... reels.html
These reels are often referred to as Medallion Reels. If you have specific questions, you can ask me and I will probably have an answer for you.

Al,
I picked up a really nice 998 reel with the green anodized spool. Looks to have been barely used. I just wanted to find out when made and possibly locate a schematic for the reel. Not a bait caster guy, mostly collect Mitchell 308 and 408 spinning reels.
Thanks,
Vic

The 998 Inter-State first appears in the 1940 OC Catalog.
This is a fine tournament reel. It is handsomely designed and sturdily constructed with all the many Ocean City improvements and the lightweight spool. These spools enable you to get greater yardage on your casts with less backlash.
It has our conveniently located adjustable thumb brake, the new metal disc type right end plate, that cannot readily be bent out of shape, and protects the reel from strain and abuse. It has Oilite spindle and worm drive bearings, jeweled adjustable left and right spindle caps, compact bridge assembly and has a beautiful highly polished satin chrome finish. A very outstanding value.
Features: Lightweight Spool, Adjustable Thumb Drag, Disc: Style Right End Plate, Oillte Bearings, Compact New Bridge and Three-piece Take Down Construction, Back Sliding Click, Jeweled Adjustable Spindle Caps. They appear again in the 1942 catalog. Nowhere does it mention a green spool but both catalogs mention the light weight spool. My belief is that it was initially introduced as a tournament caster with the green spool. There is a 5 year void in OC catalogs and in 1948 the 998 no longer appears but they introduced a 999 model in 1948. That's all I have for you but someone else may have some input.

Vic, if you can't find a schematic you can still take it apart, just take lots of pictures on the way in, from multiple angles ('cause you never know what you'll need to see on reassembly). If you get stuck we can help; just make sure you give us pics of the issue.

Some more and maybe better news.... I have both a green spool and ?chrome? spool Inter-State in my hands. I also have a Brigadier No. 978 in my hands. It was also found in the 1940 Catalog. They are identical except the Brigadier does not make any mention of a light weight spool. My opinion is changed. I now believe that the
998 Inter-State is the light weight model of the 978 Brigadier. It was also introduced a year later. The next issue is that I discovered a discrepancy in/on the OC website. And the schematic site does not call out a 978 Brigadier
But they do have a 978 Brigantine. It may be worth another look. send me a PM if you want contact me.
