Back from the Lake bottom

Post by john elder »

A friend had this reel "gifted" to him by someone who found it in the mud of a drained lake. Not sure how long it had been there, but likely from the 60's-'70's, given that it was loaded with mono and on a glass rod. When I showed this to Aussie Ray and indicated I thought I'd try cleaning it up, he suggested that maybe I should adjust my meds and spend my time on more worthwhile adventures. I agreed with him...

So, after I got through cleaning it up :D , it came out pretty nice...yes, the handle knob is decayed and needs replacing and the finish is all but gone, but what nice, mottle side plates on this old 85!

You are another one of those " reel magicians". It would have been in my trash can as a lost cause.
Nice job!.

John,

I knew you could do it but it looks so much better than I thought it would. Well Done!

That first pic I thought a chunk was missing, amazing what was under that patina, good job! :) that one was saved from one from the depths of the sea/earth and definitely shelf worthy as is :!:
