JA Coxe Coronet 25 Question

Post by stidog »

Just got in a nice Coxe Coronet 25. I play with the reel and it has a strong click, smooth wind, except... if you turn the cranks toward you the spool does not move. I'm fairly certain that isn't the way it is supposed to function. Looking on the Bronson page it seems there are a few steps to take it apart... any guesses off the top of your head on what would cause this? Thank you once again.

Correct...winding backwards puts the reel into free spool mode.

Taking it apart is very easy. Pull out the knurled knob (it is spring loaded) on the tailplate and turn it counter clockwise. The whole spindle for the spool comes out and the reel comes apart.

Larry when you take this reel fishing be sure and plant your thumb firmly on the spool when setting hook on a fish or the reel will go into free spool mode and you will have much bigger problems than just landing the fish.

Thanks for the advice Bill, I do plan on fishing with a Coxe. I have no idea why, but that is what I settled on as my favorite. Tho I do plan on checking out a Langley also... tho with the largemouth I catch, I probably should use a Pflueger Ohio.....:) :) :)

I took it apart last night Wayne, following Mr Ellis' instructions to the letter! Lol. I will admit I was a bit nervous since the reel is so nice....
