Martin Automatic Mohawk 48A

Post by mwfick »

Hey Fellas
I have acquired a Martin Automatic Mohawk 48A
I can't figure out how to open it for cleaning and loading a new line.
There doesn't seem to be much info online for them.
Can anyone get me going in the right direction with this?
Thanks!
Mike

Since you don't have instructions or a schematic you should have a digital camera handy to snap some pics as you disassemble and clean it. Sure helps when you start reassembling it.

Make sure the spring is totally released. Hold the reel in your left hand with the reel seat facing up. To the right side of the retrieve lever is a silver tab. Lift it and turn it to the right, this releases the face. Now grip the reel with both hands and turn clockwise this will open the reel. Once open it should all make sense. You don't need to take it apart to install new line, though.
