Have you tried Evapo-Rust on rusty parts?

Post by colby sorrells »

I saw a Evapo-Rust commercial on a car show and thought I would try it. Works great on rust. Does nothing to grease, oil, plastic, aluminum. A quart is under $10 and you can re-use it until it turns black. I'll be trying it on stuck handle knobs (grasps). Does not harm ivory, plastic or other handle knob materials. Just drop the part into a small container of Evapo-Rust and let it sit. Can take anywhere between 30 minutes and 12 hours to remove the rust but you don't have to scrub or anything. Just wash off with regular water once the rust is removed. As always read the directions before you use it.

Evidently not, Colby. The post has been frying for awhile with no feedback! I'll have to see if i can scare up a can and try it! Is it just on line or have you seen it at napa or other shop?

Just wanted to update this post. I've been using Evapo-Rust for several months now and had no problems with it. I just soaked a Langley handle that had stuck grasps for about 3-4 days and they are now totally free. Just be sure to put some kind of oil on the parts after they are done soaking or they will re-rust. Seems like a great product for fishing reel parts. Doesn't do anything to plastic or aluminum. Just works on steel and rust. Colby

Final update on Evapo-Rust. I have soaked several different handles in this product for 1-3 days and every time it has freed up the grasp. Just did another Langley spinning reel handle that was totally locked up and now it works just fine. It's worked great on those frozen up Shakespeare handles and grasps also. Inexpensive product that does what they say it does. I'm still on my original container with lots left to go. Does no harm and salvages some handles that are getting hard to find. I've got another Shakespeare handle ready for a dunk. Good stuff.

Just be sure to put some lightweight oil in the effected areas after soaking or they will freeze up again.

Thanks Colby, I like it too. Glad to hear about the Langley handles. I'm excited to try that since just about every one of my Langleys have stiff handle knobs!

Cheers,
