JVH 2/00 tarpon style reel

Post by Paul M »

I picked up this JVH (son of) 2/00 tarpon style reel. It has been sitting around for a few months and I finally got around to cleaning off the green stuff on the spool. The star washers were easy to clean.... I just flipped them over. The bearing caps were frozen as were the screws holding the gear bridge and the metal front plate so I gave up on those details to avoid damage. It spins well and the clicker has a great sound. I avoided soaking the rubber in vinegar as the side plates were fairly clean and dark to begin with. That also saved me a ton of time and effort. Some parts had a really nice rich patina but I decided to wipe everything clean since I had to strip the spool anyway.
