I am so thrilled at John's restoration of this abused reel! It looked like it had been run over or crushed under a heavy object. Thanks also to Jim Schottenham, for his website and for providing a photo of the rings from his beautiful, original Pettengill No. 1. Jim says the No. 1 version can be called rare, and it is interesting that this version cannot be found in the Lang's Tackle Find completed auctions database. Here is a photo showing the difference in the rim between the No. 1 reel on the left and the No. 2 on the right. I bought this reel on eBay. The seller didn't respond to my question about where he found the reel, but he was located only 2 1/2 miles from Ilion, NY, home of Albert Pettengill. The stories this reel could tell!

Hey, thanks for the pats, guys! I must admit my expectations were not very high, but the little fellow just kept getting better....sorta like Christine (I hope the reel has better karma!}
