Comment from a FB friend in England:

Lovely Reel. For our North American cousins, the English language loves to confuse and bamboozle, if you imagine the word Alnwick and take out the letters L & W as they are silent and pronounce it ANN-ICK which is the correct way to say it rather than ALN-WICK which is totally wrong, but often used by people not familiar with how the locals would speak it. It also sometimes catches out people from Southern England as they also fall for the speak as you read it so don`t feel bad.

I just realized the reel maker of the Simplicity reel in the video of Facebook post was ALUMINUM & PLASTICS PRODUCTS CO. Read more on the ORCA Fishing Reel Research website.

Thanks John! I think Richard has a similar plan for the trout. Maybe Betty too, if she can get away from managing the Convention.

By the way, Sergio subsequently sent me pictures of his Zangi Bermuda 100, comparing it to a Pelican 100.

The similarities are obvious. Has anyone else seen a Bermuda 100 reel like this? They are assumed to be reels made by Zangi in Turin, Italy for the U.S. market.

I also want to send a shout out to Charley Braum for helping me find Hurd parts.

I was asked by a party on Facebook about the drag spring assembly so I suggested they come to the ORCA site to ask their question but I posted some pics on FB. Here they are:

That Bermuda reel, with the map on the sideplate is pretty awesome.. of course I grew up there so I am a bit biased. I have never seen one before.

Post by ANTIPES Italy reel »

Hello John
I am the owner of the old "Bermuda 100" spinning reel.

At the moment this is the unique model, it is a "prototype" made by Turin's Zangi for some foreign company.
Zangi is the same Italian company that manufactured the first spinning reels for Orvis, Ted Williams / Sears, Herter's, Pescador, and other US importers, but also for the famous ABU Swedish brand.

http://www.antipes.it/marca_zangi_it.html

For this reason I suppose that this model was also thought to be sold in the overseas market, probably North America ...
Of course this is just my personal hypothesis, unfortunately I have no documentation that can clarify this fact.

I just can only mention the memory of a senior technician (84 years today), a chief engineer at Zangi, who vaguely remembers the realization of very few "Bermuda 100" models.
Unfortunately, he did not know what foreign company this model was intended for ...
… almost 50 years have elapsed since the closure of Zangi's factory and production (1972)!

I analyzed the coil in every detail and it is the perfect copy of the "Pelican 100" (painted in gold and brown); For this reason I think it was produced in the same period: about 1965/1967!
I must also point out that the same ORVIS brand (unpainted but anodized) with the name "100A" will appear on the US market from the spring of 1967 replacing the previous model: "100".
In the same spring, the Orvis 50A and 150A ... models will also be introduced on the US market (for the left-wing fishermen: 51A, 101A and 151A).

I was forgetting…. When I found my Bermuda 100,I sent to my friend Ben Wright different pictures, also of Internal gears and he told me he had never seen this model!

Best regards from Italy.

I posted Convention "ads" in Craigslist for 5 large cities within a few hundred miles of Branson, hoping to draw a bit more tackle for the auction from the general public next Saturday. For some reason, this post on our Facebook page got a little more attention than I expected. Must be the word "Craigslist"??. Anyway, see you in Branson!

Here is the actual link for the ad in the Memphis edition:
