This is the pride of my collection a Nottingham Clamp Winch with an iron pillared drum core.
Its about 200 years old.
It will feature in my forthcoming book Men of Trent along with about 80 other reels spanning the period 1800 to 1875.

That's a fantastic reel, Stefan! I've never seen one like that. A great piece of craftsmanship. When is your book coming out? And where do you find reels by the Men of Trent?

Don't know how I missed your post, Stefan, but that's a very cool reel!

Got a spare reel stamped "Pflueger" or a Montague Imperial?

Re: Men of Trent - Nottingham Clamp Winch
Its about 6 weeks away, all the writing photography copy editing etc has been done.
Images are being processed and they are messing about with the typesetting. Its not quite right but hopefully this week that will be finished.
Im in Germany at the moment photographing reels for another book and should be back in a day or two.
I think there are about 10 clamps in the book plus some of the most fantastic reels never before seen.
One brass clamp engraved and dated 1830.

Re: Men of Trent - Nottingham Clamp Winch
Thank you very much took 25 years to acquire one in a local Nottingham auction with 5 other reels estimated at £50-£80, someone else knew what it was because the hammer fell at £1,900.00 plus 17.5% commission plus tax.
One of the other reels in the lot was early but the rest went back to auction as a job lot for peanuts.
