Penn trade reel ?
Penn trade reel ?
Hi All,
Well my first reel arrived today, The start of my Penn collection !
I don't know to much about the reel, except that it may be a trade reel ?.
A Shultz Ambrose ?
Plus I needed to get my head around being able to post a photo, maybe on reflection,
A bit more care in photographing might be in order as well.

I would say 1935-1937 or so. I think that waffle clicker was gone by 1938

Ah the saga begins!! There are a bunch of variations on these early Penns, both named as Penn products and trade reels....just a really great collecting venue and not wallet-busters, with a few exceptions! Hail the waffle clicker!!

JB, that's a great piece of history there with those receipts. wow.
I didn't realise how old it was.
I can't wait to start stripping her down and cleaning her up, then pride and place on my shelf as my "first of".
After a lot of researching, there certainly is a lot to learn about Penn, Great site.

A lot to learn?! Penn's are a monster. I don't collect them simply because my brain does not have the capacity to do all the research and retain all the information!

Re: Penn trade reel ?
The Schultz / Penn reels exist because of a Trade Reel Account between the Schultz Sporting Goods stores and Penn. Schultz was a very large distributor of Penn reels, so large in fact that Schultz placed their name on the Penn products and sold those products through both of their stores. They had one store in Manhattan and the other stores was in Freeport, Long Island. This account was started in the late 1930's and continued many years after the war.

By the way, the Trade reel you have, 1937 Shultz Ambrose, is actually a very hard to find 1937 Penn Bay Side!
