Mr. Meisselbach Did Good!
Here's a few unusual and very pretty Meisselbach Take-Apart reels.
From Left: 1) 1st model Take-Apart, GS/HR; 2) 1st model, 2nd version (note the aluminum ring rather than hard rubber); 3) Round pillar with rubber veneer face plate; 4) tube frame with rubber veneer plate.

Hello Phil:
As this is my initial post on this site, if I screw it up horribly, please don't rupture yourself laughing!
The German silver and hard rubber Meisselbachs are indeed beautiful.
Might you be willing to show us a picture of your Meisselbach made from tree parts by Woodmeister John Elder?
Thank you in advance. Jim

Jim: Your request is my pleasure.
Of course all credit for this terrific reel goes to John Elder. The reel currently sits in a place of honor on a table in our living room.
I thought I might tear the bearings apart, however, and put in a pair of precision ball bearings to see if I could smooth it up a bit.

Wow
Those are some hansome reels Phil,
and that wooden reel is awesome! If you're still in the mood for requests, how 'bout some early Amateurs? Love those side-mounted versions!

Here's a few of other examples of Gus & William Meisselbach's talents.
The less common reels include their first surf reel (front left), a Deep Sea model (top center) and a new in box Surf No. 635 in that dark blue box. Pliny Catucci helped a lot with these reels
The following reel was found in the basement of the Catucci family home. It was saved by a grandson who wanted to use it to fish with. However, he couldn't figure out how it worked.
Sorry for the photo on this one, but it was a while ago.
