A Canadian Indiana reel
Recently added a reel I've been after for awhile now, and now I need company info. It's marked "Master Casting Reel, Bicycle Sales Co, WPG". Patented on 8/7/1923. Searches for this company have come up empty, so I'm looking for any help on this one.
Thanks!
Oh, and anyone got a box for this!?!?!
Jim

Hi Jim! Certainly a fine reel. I do think that it belongs in Canadian hands. Seriously though, you have a rare and museum quality reel there. Anyway, heres the info i could dig up. Hope it helps.
The first app. is found in the 1930 Winnepeg directory:
Canadian Bait Mfg. Co.
334 Smith St.
Manager; A.J Bukoske - Home: 818 Alverstone
Street address also shows Canadian Bait Bicycle Sales: Manager: Bukoske
1930-1936: Alverstone address used to run business. In 1937 business moved to 247 NotreDame. Managed by Bukoske at same address until 1957. In 1958 business is taken over by Victoria Bukoske. No further mention of A.J , so i assume that he passed away. Business still run from home address of Alverstone. In 1959, Canadian Bait still at 247 NotreDame , showing President as being one Peter Birch. Bussiness disappears soon after and a travel agency sets up shop at that location. Nothing more after that. Pretty boring stuff, but a lot more info than most other Canadian reel builders. canadian

Thank You!!!
Tony,
That's a great help, thanks! August John Bukoske was listed as the inventor on the August 23rd 1923 patent. I wonder if the company had a different name in 1922/1923, before your discovery in the 1930 directory. I appreciate the information, it's much more than I could find!

Hi Jim! Glad to be of help. I,m currently in contact with the Winnepeg archives and the Museum Of Winnepeg to see if i can get more patent info, pictures of reels that might be in the museums vaults and possibly more info on actual models and their production dates. If i find anything i will post for everyone to see.

some of you guys don't let your photos remain - talking to you, too, John.
it's really nice to archive this stuff away.
photobucket gives you a full gigabite for free - that's more than 10,000 photos when reduced to the sizes we use here.
you guys see how many photos I post.
I have used 6% of my alloted free space.
cool, Jim - thanks !

Jim--That`s one of the nicest of that type I`ve seen. Well designed, and
the wood knobs' rich color is a great accent. Where did you find(?) it ?

It's a Canadian canadian patent. Go to the "Drawings Image".
