Frankfort KY Regional Meeting June 9

Post by bettybarr »

The members gathered at the Capital City Museum at 10:00 to view the exhibit and buy their copies of the new book published by our own Todd Larson. The book is a catalogue of the exhibit and it is first class.
Matt said it is the best museum catalogue he has ever seen. I agree. The book is available through Whitefish Press.
From left to right: Robin Sayler from Wisconsin, Todd, Charles Arthur, Matt, Doug Carpenter and Don Kleier.

We then went across the street to the Kentucky History Center for story telling and lunch. We brought interesting reels to share. Here Don examines Matt's KY reel engraved with Desha Breckenridge. This is a storied KY family. Matt gave us a handout of the family history. The member at the far right is Bill Hinkebein from Louisville and the woman at the far left is Heidi Larson.

Next we walked to 222 W.Main Street to dedicate the Historic Marker in front of the reel makers' shop. At the Dedication was the Milam family. The kids helped the Mayor pull the veil off the Marker.

We were led on a tour around Frankfort to see the homes of the reel makers by historian Russ Hatter.

The Frankfort Cemetery Tour ended this fun meeting with a walk to all of the reel makers graves led by Doug Carpenter. Don shows us the new marker we just had placed for JL Sage, previously unmarked. Check out the Kentucky reel engraved in the stone!
We all left with great memories and good stories.

Got a spare reel stamped "Pflueger" or a Montague Imperial?
