Registration Help

Post by Brian F. »

Please note that you must have separate registrations and user IDs for Orcaonline and Reel Talk. Reel Talk is our message forum, and requires you register in order to post messages. Orcaonline allows you to access member services and store account access. You must be an Orca member to register for Orcaonline, but you don't need to be a member of Orca to register for Reel Talk.

If you are not registered, go to the page ucp.php?mode=register If anyone has questions about registering for Reel Talk after going through the registration process and taken a look through the 'FAQs' on the same registration webpage, please contact me. You can email me or any of the board admin using the "Email" button below.

We've had some difficulty with members changing email addresses, forgotten passwords, etc. Sometimes it may just be easier to delete your old user name and re-register. The problem may be that you can't find your old posts anymore but at least you can still participate. We'd all love to have you join us talk about old reels so stay a while!

Just a reminder that when you register for the forum or message board, you are not automatically a member of ORCA and vice-versa. You still would need to register for both separately.

Now for the shameless plug for why you should join The Old Reel Collectors Association!:

If you (or anyone else) want more information on antique reels, the Old Reel Collectors Association (ORCA) forum is a good place to start. There's always a wealth of information on the public message board that you can dig up using the search engine. BUT THERE'S EVEN MORE!

While you don't have to join to get on the message board, one of the ORCA member benefits is that you have access to the club library. Members donate copies of old catalogs and the library now has a good number of out of print manufacturer's catalogs available for copy at minimal cost, along with many other companys that produced reels. Another benefit is the club news magazine, The Reel News (published 5 times a year), in which members write about their research on technology, history, personal experiences and just about anything to do with collecting old reels. The March issue also has a member directory that can assist you in networking with other collectors with similar interests. Say for instance, many collectors specialize in certain manufacturers: Penn, Vom Hofe, South Bend, etc. or types of reels: fly, baitcasting, saltwater, surf reels.

Besides meeting up at antique tackle shows around the country, we also get together once a year for the National Convention held at different locations each year. Instead of just a swap meet of selling and buying old reels, we have different activities like fishing and casting contests using antique tackle; seminars on different subjects, including company history, preservation, etc. It's a relatively smaller get together but it's a great opportunity to meet other collectors/fishermen and fisherwomen. Great group of people.
