Brent Frazee, outdoor writer for the Kansas City Star, took this photo while in the boat with me in Michigan on August 6 of this year. There is a Pflueger Skilcast under my hand, attached to a True Temper hollow steel rod and a Heddon "Dying Quiver" in the bass' mouth.
Pflueger Skilcast is in there somewhere

Bill:
A wonderful story and excellent photos as well. This could have been printed in Field & Stream or Outdoor Life 50 years ago. Great to see you using the gear (boat, oars and all) that many of us can recall from our youth. Fine bass too!
The one thing that I don't personally recall is that enormous tackle box. But then again, my trout vest is no lightweight either.
Thanks for giving us all a trip back in time.
Jim

I have a box like that ( a 747 no longer in use). My friends told me to open it and put an outboard motor on it.
I now use several smaller Plano boxes that fit nicely in my boat storage. But back in the 1950's I used a similar box with only 4 drawers.
It sure makes the blood boil to get a bass that large to break right beside the boat!
