Salmonfishing on Iceland - The land of fire and ice

Post by Jacob : salmonfisher03 »

Back again from a wonderful week of salmonfishing on Iceland.
A week where the salmon not took my fly so many times that I wished

I hope you will enjoy some of my pictures.

Image
Reels and rods are ready - ready to go.

Image
The lodge

Image
Picture from the guest book, I think you have heard of him  (Ernest Schwiebert)

Image
And another fisherman that has been in this lodge and fished for salmon in Laxa i Adaldal, surely also a person you have seen before. (Bing Crosby)

Image
The first river we fished was Laxa i Adaldal. That is one of the best and most expensive rivers on Iceland.

Image
ready to fish - a few minutes later, I lost a very nice salmon here. (weight about 6 kg) :Bawl:

After 3 days fishing on the Laxa i Adaldal, without any salmons on the bank, we had to find a new river.

We found a river on the other side of the island - also a very wellknown and beautiful river.
The Ranga (West Ranga) :fished

Image
One of the big waterfalls that is on the Ranga. The salmon is passing this amazing waterfall.

Image
I'm fishing under the waterfall.

Image
And finally the salmon took my fly - nice little salmon 8) 8)

Image
The mountain in the background is the fame volcano Eyjafjallajökulls that stopped most of the airline traffic in 2010.

Image
And the Hekla volcano in the background.

First time that I visit Iceland - and surely not last time.
This island is wonderful and the nature is very amazing.

Those are very nice pictures, Jacob. Thanks for the interesting post. I'm glad you got a salmon. That's an elite crowd you were joining. Ernie and Bing, wow.

Beautiful country, Jacob. Thanks for sharing. That's an interesting rod holder. Is it fixed to the hood of the truck or is it portable?

Nice pictures as always. I really enjoy your pictures, knowing I'll never see that part of the world in person but at least I can see it through the pictures. Thats also why I like thumbing through National Geographic and Playboy.

I'm glad you like the pictures.

Brian: The rod holder is with magnetic plates so that you can put one in front of the car and one one the roof.
I also have a pair with vacum, if the car has aluminium plates.
It is used very much here in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Iceland, when you drive around with the long rods for salmon fishing.

John,
I have be driving a bit over 80 km (50 miles) without any problem.
But sometimes I'm a bit worried about it.

Greet pictures and scenery. I have always thought of you as "King of Denmark". Now that I've seen your picture, I didn't see a crown?/ What gives?
