Is this proposed list supposed to be all type & model inclusive, i.e. J.C. Higgins, Simpson-Sears, Sears Roebuck & Co, Ted Williams, K Mart, open & closed face spinning, fly and so called "conventional", or just J.C. Higgins &/or casting, trolling & big game type reels? Also, U.S. only makers, or world wide?

I think this list could be a book in itself if it is all inclusive to present and goes WW

These are just the J.C. Higgins "brand" reels sold through Sears, Roebuck & Co. I don't know the types of reels (casting, fly, Salt Water, etc.) these cover, but the J.C. Higgins brand had nothing to do with the Ted Williams line of reels, or K-Mart or anything other than Sears.

Mark is correct, I am searching and compiling only J.C. Higgins at this time. The majority of the reels listed are baitcasting style. There a couple of fly reels and spinning reels noted. I edited the list today with more findings for Penn & Shakespeare. I have found nothing for Pflueger yet.

At some point I intend to go back and designate reel type and FW/SW

I want to say I read somewhere that the first three digits tell which company made the reel. i.e. 311.xxxx is ocean city, 312.xxxx is bronson... Do we have a full list of who is who on that topic?

Has anyone thought to maybe call Sears headquarters and ask to speak to the V.P. of Sporting Good, Explain to him/her what ORCA is trying to do and see if Sears has a list (History) of company's that Sears has done business with?, along with the key to recognize who built them. Just a thought or idea.

There is an email address for Sears' "archival" department. They have a small staff that will take your questions in the order they are received, but most of the info they have concerns past catalogs and the products sold through them. They can be contacted at *** email address removed ***. There's no phone number that I know of. Might be worth a shot.

Don't know if this is much help, but I have a JC Higgins Automatic fly reel 3152 that is exactly like a Martin Mohawk 28. There is no number on the reel itself except two patent #s, but the box it came in and the instruction sheet are marked 3152. There's always the possibility it could be the wrong box.
